A Workshop in the Art of Parasol Recovering
Antique parasols can come at a premium price; most have covers that are no longer in useable condition. It is sad to see a once beautiful parasol with its former glorious silk or linen cover in tatters, unable to go out and show itself off for lack of better circumstances. Sometimes it's just hard to find a parasol to complete your look at all. So what's a costumer to do? Come to the workshop and learn to transform a modern reproduction, then with your new skills you can recover that old beauty at home!
For workshop purposes, we will use a new reproduction parasol (included in the kit) to learn all the techniques necessary to recover parasols. Anyone that has an antique or vintage parasol is encouraged to bring it along for discussion and consultation, but we will not be working on it in class.
The workshop will cover; parasol and umbrella history, parasol pattern making (with or without an old cover) simple repair suggestions for old broken parasols and how to construct new handles to give your modern reproduction an individual look.
